The Drugdiag Saliva 5-drug saliva test is the leading multi-substance screening device in France, manufactured in Strasbourg by the Toda Pharma laboratory. This saliva screening test allows simultaneous detection of five psychoactive substances: THC (cannabis), cocaine, amphetamines, methamphetamines, and opiates. Used daily by French law enforcement (Police and Gendarmerie), the military, and companies as part of occupational risk prevention (Joana Plan), it complies with the decree of December 13, 2016, and is CE ISO 13485 certified. This multi-substance drug saliva test provides a reliable result in 5 minutes with detection thresholds compliant with French regulations.

The Drugdiag Saliva 5 test enables immediate and non-invasive detection of five narcotic substances in saliva in a single operation. It is designed to meet the needs of road safety professionals, human resources managers, and individuals wishing to perform a full preventive check before driving or for responsible personal use.

Main uses of the 5-drug saliva test

Road safety and preventive checks

The Drugdiag 5-drug saliva test allows for complete self-monitoring before driving. Article L235-1 of the Highway Code strictly prohibits driving after using any narcotic substance. Penalties include a 6-point deduction on the driving license, a fine of up to 4,500 euros, license suspension, and up to 2 years imprisonment. This multi-substance saliva screening test provides broad preventive protection by detecting the presence of THC, cocaine, amphetamines, methamphetamines, and opiates several hours after consumption.

Workplace screening

As part of the Joana Plan 2025 and in accordance with article L.4121-1 of the Labor Code, the employer is required to take necessary measures to ensure the safety and protect the physical and mental health of workers. The 5-drug saliva test is used for extended screening in security and safety positions: operating construction machinery, working at heights, handling dangerous machines, transporting people and goods, heavy lifting, sensitive sectors.

Screening must be mandatory under the company’s internal regulations and respect proportionality of means. The transport, logistics, construction, industry, and private security sectors are particularly concerned by these regulatory obligations. The 5-drug test offers comprehensive coverage of the substances most frequently encountered in the workplace.

Personal use and individual prevention

The Drugdiag Saliva 5 saliva test allows for extended confidential verification before a professional event, a medical check, or to ensure the absence of detectable psychoactive substances before resuming an activity requiring maximum alertness and concentration. The simultaneous screening of five substances offers complete peace of mind. No restrictive legal framework applies to personal use of the test.

Detected substances and detection thresholds

The Drugdiag Saliva 5 saliva test detects the five most sought-after psychoactive substances during roadside and workplace checks in France:

Abbreviation Detection threshold
THC 15 ng/mL
COC 20 ng/mL
AMP 50 ng/mL
MET 50 ng/mL
MOP 40 ng/mL

These thresholds strictly comply with French regulations and are identical to those used by law enforcement during roadside checks and by companies under the Joana Plan.

Essential information regarding CBD and the test result

This saliva test does not detect pure cannabidiol (CBD). It reacts exclusively to the presence of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive molecule in cannabis responsible for intoxicating effects.

Warning: Legally marketed CBD products in France may contain residual traces of THC within the authorized limit of 0.3 percent. Regular consumption of such products can lead to THC accumulation in the body and result in a positive saliva test, even without experiencing psychoactive effects. This positive result may have legal consequences during roadside or professional checks.

Detection time of substances in saliva

The detection window for psychoactive substances in saliva depends on several factors: frequency of use, amount consumed, individual metabolism, and type of substance. The following data come from scientific studies and feedback from professionals using these devices.

Substance Detection time after consumption
THC 6 to 8 hours (occasional) – 24 hours (regular) – several days (intensive)
COC 12 to 24 hours after the last use
AMP 24 to 48 hours after the last use
MET 24 to 72 hours after the last use
OPI 12 to 24 hours after the last use

These durations are given for informational purposes only. Individual variations depend on many factors: metabolism, body mass index, hydration level, concentration of the substance consumed, frequency of use, duration of consumption, and possible drug interactions.

French manufacturing and medical quality

Toda Pharma, a French manufacturer of drug screening tests, was one of the first European laboratories to develop a rapid serological test for coronavirus detection as early as February 2020 and was validated by the National Reference Center (CNR), the Pasteur Institute, and the French Ministry of Solidarity and Health.

A study was conducted in 3 hospitals by different operators on 3 separate batches of each drug at concentrations of 0ng/ml, +/- 25%, and +/- 50% of the detection threshold for the drug in question. All results met expectations. The detailed tables of all results are available to users upon request.

Licenses & Drugs: Avoid Penalties

In France, driving after using narcotics, including cannabis, is strictly prohibited.

Since 2008 (Article L235-2 of the Highway Code), law enforcement can carry out a saliva test for THC screening.

In 2025, the regulations were strengthened:

  • Law No. 2025-622 increased penalties: up to 3 years imprisonment and a €9,000 fine.
  • A positive test results in an immediate administrative suspension of the license.
  • An automatic 6-point deduction applies.

CBD may contain residual THC detectable by our tests, leading to the same penalties.

Frequently Asked Questions about Screening

How long does THC remain detectable in saliva?

The detection time of THC in saliva varies depending on your habits. For an occasional smoker, expect 6 to 8 hours. For a regular user, it can last 24 hours or even several days. Buying a saliva test is the only way to know exactly how long it takes your body to eliminate the substance before driving.

Can CBD cause a positive saliva test?

Yes, it is a major risk. Legal CBD in France contains traces of THC (up to 0.3%). Frequent use accumulates these residues. During a police or gendarmerie check, this level can exceed the legal limit and cause your saliva test to be positive. Preventive self-testing is strongly recommended.

Is it exactly the same test as the police and the gendarmerie?

Absolutely. Our Drugdiag tests rigorously use the same detection threshold (15 ng/mL) as those set by the decree of December 13, 2016. These are the same thresholds used by the police and the gendarmerie during road checks. They offer professional reliability certified ISO 13485.

Are HHC, THCP, and other derivatives detected?

Yes. Screening devices cross-react with new synthetic molecules (HHC, H4CBD, THCP) because their structure is very close to classic cannabis. Driving under the influence of these derivatives exposes you to the same criminal penalties, especially since the tightening of the law on Road Homicide.

What to do if you have a positive saliva test at home?

If your self-test is positive, you are not fit to drive. Do not get behind the wheel to avoid losing 6 points and having your license suspended. Wait a few hours, stay hydrated, and take another test to confirm that you are below the legal limit again.

Do anti-THC sprays (Kleaner) work against a positive saliva test?

No. Our laboratory tests prove that detection devices remain positive even after using these sprays. Do not risk a positive saliva test during a roadside check. Buying a saliva test remains the only reliable method to verify your fitness to drive.
