Why do drugs increase road risk?
Cannabis can slow reactions and alter perception. Cocaine and amphetamines can encourage risk-taking and mask fatigue. Opiates, benzodiazepines, and certain medications can cause drowsiness and slowing down.

What does a saliva test look for?
Depending on the reference, it may test for THC, cocaine, amphetamines, methamphetamines, MDMA, opiates, or benzodiazepines. Each line corresponds to a specific family and a threshold indicated by the manufacturer.
The result is presumptive. It does not provide the exact amount consumed, the time of intake, or the intensity of effects.
What a negative result really means
It means that the targeted substances were not detected at the device's threshold under the sampling conditions. It does not mean:
- that no drug or medication is present;
- that the driver is rested and fit;
- that a subsequent official test will be negative;
- that driving becomes legally permitted after consumption;
- that the consumed CBD product was free of THC.
What is the difference with the official control?
In France, law enforcement mainly uses a saliva screening test. When positive, a sample is analyzed by a laboratory or an accredited expert. The self-test performed at home does not have this probative value.
How to improve reliability of use?
- check the packaging, expiration date, and storage;
- follow the pre-collection restrictions indicated in the instructions;
- collect enough saliva;
- read the result within the prescribed time window;
- never interpret a test without a control line;
- in a professional context, apply a confirmation procedure.

A THC-only test is suitable when cannabis is the only substance sought. A multi-drug test is more relevant when multiple families need to be covered. Adding unnecessary lines can complicate reading without improving the response to the need.
